As students returned to campus after the holidays this January, the construction on the College St. green space in front of Plunkett Hall was still underway. Mercer University announced Thursday that Chief of Mercer Police Gary Collins would be retiring Jan. 16. Collins has served as a campus safety and campus police officer since 1983, and helped transform the department beyond campus safety into a fully-fledged police force.

On Aug. 25, the Office of Student Affairs announced that due to driver shortages, the Macon Transit Authority (MTA) bus service would not be in operation for Mercer students until further notice. Mercer’s biology department recently unveiled a new curriculum for the undergraduate biology major. The transition includes modifications of many introductory and intermediate level biology classes, the addition of new courses, the implementation of a programming component for several labs and changes in the course load for biology and biochemistry majors.
