Mercer softball (19-21, 1-7 SoCon) upset No. 16 University of Georgia (25-13), 5-2, on Wednesday, April 2 for the team's first top-25 win since 2018. The win pushed Mercer to a 6-1 record against in-state universities this season, and came just a week after the Bears took down Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

For the Bears, Hallie Langford '25 scored in the top of the first inning, and Emma Dorval '25 and Sydney Harris '25 both crossed home plate twice in the game. By the end of the third inning, Mercer held a 5-1 lead and was able to keep the Bulldogs at bay through strong pitching from a pair of junior hurlers.

Head coach Lindsay Fico rotated between pitchers Hannah Pitts '26 and Southern Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year Grace Taylor '26 to attack the Bulldogs at the plate. Between Pitts and Taylor, the Bulldogs garnered six hits and left 10 runners stranded in the game. It was the fewest hits Georgia's batters recorded since March 22, and other than Mercer, only seven other teams have held the Athens team to fewer than six successful at-bats this season.

The Bears then took on Wofford College (23-15, 5-4 SoCon), who swept Mercer in Spartanburg, S.C. in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.

In both Saturday games, Mercer held a three- and four-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, blanking the Terriers up until then in each contest. However, the home team rallied in both games and sent the Bears home after two consecutive walk-off losses.

Following a mid-week date with Kennesaw State University (10-29) on Wednesday, the Bears will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on SoCon foe East Tennessee State University (13-25, 2-7 SoCon).
