Head football coach Mike Jacobs has been given a contract extension through 2029, according to an announcement from Mercer Athletics. During his first year at Mercer, he led the team to a 11-3 overall record and the program's first-ever Southern Conference championship.
"My family and I are extremely appreciative of both the support and the unmatched commitment that the University has shown to us and this football program over the last 14 months," Jacobs told Mercer Athletics. "Middle Georgia is our home, and my commitment to Mercer is unwavering."
After former head coach Drew Cronic left Mercer for the offensive coordinator position at Army, Jacobs came to Macon with three years of head coaching experience at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Along with new faces in the coaching staff, some players from the North Carolina school came to Mercer as well, moving from Division II football to Division I.
Some notable players that followed Jacobs to Mercer include running back Dwayne McGee '25 and wide receiver Kelin Parsons '25. McGee rushed for over 1,000 yards last season and Parsons recorded 646 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
