This past weekend, Mercer baseball played a three-game series at home against Tennessee Tech, a team the Bears had not yet played this season nor last season. Mercer entered the non-conference game 12-6 on the season and coming off of a two-game losing streak.
Mercer won the series with two wins and a loss.
This first game, on Friday, was a 9-1 win with Mercer having 14 hits and zero errors. Left handed pitcher Colton Cosper ‘25 started the game on the mound and gave up the first score of the game to Tech. Mercer responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the bottom of the second inning and three in the bottom of the third inning.
Right handed pitcher and Macon native Andrew Garnett ‘26 came in to relieve Cosper in the sixth inning to close the game.
The second game on Saturday saw Tech tie the series 1-1 in a 9-7 Mercer loss. Right handed pitcher Braydon Kersey ‘28, who entered the game 3-1, was on the mound to start. Mercer's offense was strong in the bottom of the third inning, and scored five runs to take a commanding lead. From then on, Mercer's offense would score just two more runs in the game, while Tech pulled ahead to take the come-from-behind win.
The Bears took the series in the third game as the team won 6-3. Left handed pitcher Jess Ackerman ‘26 was on the mound first for Mercer before Cade Cosper ‘27 and Collin Eswalden ‘28 came in for relief. Including this series, Ty Dalley '27 has gone 4-for-20 at the plate since the Bears took on Alabama State University on March 11. While it is far from a slump, the Bears have gone 2-3 in the same stretch, indicating the slugger may be key to Mercer's success this season.
The Bears are now 14-7 on the season and sitting in the No. 3 spot in conference standings.
