On Oct. 24, Mercer students can stop by the Tattnall Square Center for the Arts for a zombie murder mystery hosted by Mercer Players. This is the first year the theatre organization has thrown this event and the Mercer Players are hoping to make the murder mystery event an annual Halloween activity.
The event runs from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and is for everyone, even those with no involvement in theatre.
“This gives them an opportunity to just show up into the theater and see how the community interacts with each other, and really gives people who might be wanting to act an opportunity to improv act and, like, see themselves acting," said Mercer Players Vice President Evie Hufstetler '24.
The murder mystery is split into two acts. The first act is for assigning character roles to students and the second is for solving the mystery.
“It’s similar to DND [Dungeons and Dragons]. Where you’re having a character and you know what they want or what has happened prior to this event, and it’ll basically allow them to find themselves in this character and kind of act that out," said Hufstetler.
For anyone who is a fan of escape rooms and asylums, this zombie murder mystery provides a similar spooky environment.
Participants will have to find clues and piece the story together. Some of the roles students can have are scientists, zombies, or investigators. Along with the acting, there will also be a scavenger hunt.
A background or acting experience is not necessary to participate. All students are encouraged to attend, especially with Halloween right around the corner.
“It’s just an event so that we can have anybody who wants to be involved know that they can be involved,” said Hufstelter.
Mercer Players will provide refreshments for those who participate.
