Four sorority teams faced off in a powderpuff tournament hosted by Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity on Thursday, Oct. 17. The tournament was hosted in order to support the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Research and Education Foundation (SCARE).

SCARE raises money in order to donate automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, to local businesses and teach CPR training with the goal of providing life saving measures in the event of sudden cardiac arrest. The philanthropy event comes weeks after Mason Sells, a member of ATO, died due to a cardiac event.

The four teams faced off at the intramural fields as friends and supporters gathered to watch. The starting fixtures were Chi Omega (Chi O) vs. Alpha Delta Pi (ADPi) and Phi Mu vs. Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA).

The energy surrounding the event was competitive while fraternity cheerleaders for each sorority dressed to support their teams. “We’re super excited to compete and have fun and cheer on each other,” said Nolan Barnes ‘26, the philanthropy chairman for ATO.

Phi Mu, coached by ATO, and AKA, coached by Lambda Chi Alpha, had a tough showdown with Phi Mu ending victoriously with a score of 15-7.

In the final game, ADPi and Phi Mu fought for the championship. The final score of the game was 27-0 in favor of ADPi, who took home the tournament win for their sorority.
