On Saturday, Mercer welcomed students to a new green space on College Street in front of Plunkett Hall. To celebrate its opening, Mercer hosted “Party on The Plaza” to bring in students to enjoy the new area.
At the event, students enjoyed inflatables, sand volleyball, live music and food. The event also allowed visiting potential students to walk around the area and tour the nearby dorms.
Originally, the project was scheduled to be completed in January, but complications further pushed it back to March 15. The construction caused students to have to take different routes to class for the fall and the first half of the spring semester.
Kennedy Jenkins '27 spoke with the Cluster at the event about the new area. She believes that this newly constructed area will bring out more students.
“I’m most excited for the days where it will be like this, where you get to come out and use the volleyball space with your friends and hang out and chill,” Jenkins said.
This new area offers a miniature green space similar to Cruz Plaza, a sand volleyball court, and more seating areas for students to use for online classes, eating and studyign outside.
