Mercer lacrosse season is blossoming into full swing in tandem with springtime, bringing with it hopes of continued success for the women’s team and building upon last year’s work for the men’s team.

Men’s Lacrosse

The men’s lacrosse team kicked off their 2024 season against High Point University on Feb. 3. While the Bears were first to score, High Point capitalized further on, leading at the half, 11-3. The Bears lost 7-14. In their home opener, however, Mercer bounced back against Hampton University, beating the Pirates, 20-5.

On March 16, the Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a win against the University of Detroit at Mercy. The Bears defeated the Titans, 17-11, improving to 1-0 in the ASUN conference and 2-4 overall. During the game, Mercer was led by Colin Kelley ‘24, who compiled 11 saves, and Parker Junod ‘24, who netted 4 goals and 2 assists.

The Bears will play their next game on March 20 at Five Star Stadium against Bellarmine University, who knocked the Bears out of the ASUN Conference tournament in the first round last season.

This year’s ASUN Conference Tournament will begin April 30.

Women’s Lacrosse

The women’s lacrosse team had their first home game on Feb. 17, losing to Virginia Tech, 8-21. The Bears bounced back in their second game, beating Davidson College, 17-10. Overall, the Bears are 3-4, losing their last game to number 13 University of Florida, 7-20. Against the Gators, the Bears were led by Kayla Soltys ‘24, who scored twice.

The Bears will play their next game at home against number 8 Notre Dame on Sunday, March 24. Big South Conference play will start against Presbyterian on Wednesday, March 27. The Bears are the two-time defending champions of the conference, losing only once to Big South opponents since joining the conference in 2022.

The 2024 Big South Tournament will begin May 5.
