Music and more: how to spend your long weekend

Unsure how to start or spend the long weekend after syllabus week? The Cluster has you covered! There are plenty of things to do in Macon, but here are some special events happening this weekend:

Music and Market - Friday 8 p.m. - FREE

Oh Honey Baking Company at 2391 Ingleside Avenue will be hosting their Music and Market event on Jan. 12 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Vendors will include ARTSPACE Macon, Prachi Henna Art LLC, and The West Collective.

ARTSPACE will feature do-it-yourself art projects as well as the featured works of local artists for sale, while Prachi Henna Art will be drawing henna designs and selling handmade jewelry and digital art. The West Collective will also be featuring aromatherapy products, candles, and art.

Live music and entertainment for the evening will be provided by Brent Thomason and Innerbeing.

Neal Lucas Trio - Friday 9 p.m. - $10

If you're looking to experience some of Macon's famous blues and rock-and-roll sound, head over to Grant's Lounge at 576 Poplar Street on Friday Night to catch a great show.

Grant's Lounge in downtown Macon is hosting the Neal Lucas Trio, a blues fusion band similar to Cream and the Allman Brothers Band, this Friday night!

Middle Georgia Comic Convention - Saturday and Sunday - Tickets Vary

Look to unleash your love of all things fandom, geeky, or fun? The two-day comic convention at the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Center will feature dozens of vendors, YouTubers, Panelists, and video game tournaments.

The schedule for tournaments can be found at midgacomicconvention.com, and There is an additional $5 charge to participate in each tournament. The convention location has changed since last year, so make sure to make a note of it. 

The convention is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Sunday. The prices are $12 for a one-day ticket or for a $20 two-day ticket.

Volunteer at Amerson River Park - Sunday - Free

If you consider yourself green-thumbed, or just want to get outside, check out the volunteer gardening day at Amerson River Park's Native Plant Garden and Monarch Waystation!

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, volunteers will work to remove invasive and non-native plants from the garden, so dress for work if you decide to go. More information can be found on their Facebook.

Volunteer with Centenary Church's MLK Day of Service - Monday - Free

If you want to serve the local community on your day off, several churches are partering in memory of Dr. King to give away groceries, hot meals and hygiene and household items on Monday at Centenary Church at 1290 College St.

Volunteers can register here, and can expect to work from 10a.m. to 1p.m.

Henry has held internships at the Macon Newsroom, Macon Telegraph, and Greenville Post and Courier. He enjoys backpacking, rom-coms, pottery and photography.
