Mercer’s football team traveled to Lexington, Virginia on Saturday to take on Virginia Military College and defeated the Keydets 55-14.

Devron Harper set a new school record with 293 all-purpose yards in the game. His first 87-yards and the first touchdown of the game came from a punt return that he ran in for a touchdown with five minutes left in the first quarter.

Another 24 points came in the second quarter starting with Brandon Marshall’s 2-yard run into the endzone. Tayshaun Smith scored off a 22-yard pass from Payton who hit Ty James with a 7-yard touchdown pass with 20 seconds to go in the second quarter. Devin Folser nailed a 42-yard field goal through the uprights at the end of the half.

In the third quarter, CJ Miller went on a 4-yard run into the endzone and James scored again on a 3-yard pass from Payton. Smith caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, and Folser ended the game with another spot-on field goal from the 19-yard line.
