With the weather soon warming up, it’s time to complete your winter bucket lists. These five activities are sure to provide you and your loved ones enough fun to last these final chilly days.

  1. See a movie with friends.

Staying indoors and watching a movie is a guaranteed fun way to get out of the cold for at least two hours. With a mixture of genres ranging from romance, superheroes, historical action, comedy and children’s films in theaters now, you can expect a wide variety of choices.

Movies coming to theaters in February include “Gods of Egypt,” the story of a thief who goes on a quest through Egypt with a god, and “Risen,” an account of the resurrection told by a non-believer.

If you need something sooner, be sure to check out “Deadpool,” a Marvel Comics flick, or “The Choice,” an adaption of the Nicholas Spark’s book by the same name.

  1. Go to a hockey game.

Need something to do on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday evening? You could go watch the Macon Mayhem at the Macon Centreplex.

According to the Macon Centreplex’s website, “Pro hockey is back in Macon after 10 years.” Why not support our local team after a long absence?

Games are held on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday starting in February and lasting through the end of the season, with after-game skating starting at either 7 p.m. or 10 p.m., depending on the time of the game. Games are held at either 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.

  1. Try to ice skate.

The Macon Centreplex will host ice skating at least through March 27, however, more days may be added. Skating is open to the public, but there is a ticket price of $8 if you have your own skates or $10 if you are renting. There is also a reduced price if you present your ticket stub after a hockey game.

  1. Visit a museum.

Macon is home to several interesting museums waiting to be explored on a blistery winter afternoon. The Tubman African American Museum now resides at its massive location on Cherry Street. There is also The Big House - Allman Brothers Band Museum and the Museum of Arts and Sciences. All offer interesting rotating exhibits that change depending on the season.

Whatever you feel like doing to make your winter a wonderland, these options should help get you started.
