QuadWorks to host annual Stompfest competition

An up and coming Mercer tradition, Stompfest, hosted by QuadWorks, is around the corner.
The event is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Opera House in downtown Macon.
Stompfest is a step show that hosts an array of Greek organizations from all over the state including Mercer’s own organizations.
Tickets went on sale Jan. 31 and are $7 for Mercer students, $10 for non-Mercer students, and $15 for general admission.
Tickets will also be available at the door of the Grand Opera House.
The organizations that will perform include Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Iota Phi Theta.
The winning prizes this year will be $1,750 for best male group and best female group.
QuadWorks has been working closely with the National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations at Mercer.
According to this year’s Stompfest coordinator, Briana Mitchell, organizing the event has been a bit hectic.
“We made some decisions that turned out really well,” she said. “We put in a lot of hard work and we are excited to see the fruits of our labor.”
Even though Stompfest is somewhat of a new Mercer tradition, it adds to the idea of campus unity. Despite the fact that Mercer’s campus is small, Mitchell said, “Stompfest helps to illustrate that we have a diverse and appreciative student population.”
The event is well received by people in the community. Stompfest allows students the opportunity to get a taste of different cultures and organizations that they did not previously know about.
Mercer and QuadWorks staff have been very welcoming and accommodating to the teams that will perform from other schools.
What makes Stompfest different from other step shows is Mercer’s eagerness to share this opportunity with not only its own students, but also people from other places.
Mitchell remarks that “we really care about them, their happiness and Stompfest establishes relationships that will bring them back again. We talk to the teams on personal levels and build friendships, not just business connection.”
The president of the NPHC on Mercer’s campus, Esteban Boyer, agrees that Stompfest is a great event.
“I believe it’s a good way to promote Greek unity, not only within NPHC, but also the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council,” Boyer said.
“It is a good show and it brings people to Macon and to Mercer’s campus.”
Stompfest illustrates the unity between the students who perform and those that come to support the event.
