Louie Giglio declines inauguration invite due to controversial sermon

The Rev. Louie Giglio, previously known for leading the Passion Conferences, is now making headlines for a sermon of his that supposedly gives anti-gay remarks.
After receiving an invitation from the White House to give the benediction at President Barack Obama’s inauguration, Giglio declined two days later after his sermon was spread all around the Internet.
In a statement about the situation, Giglio does not apologize for his words in the controversial sermon but instead says that, “it is likely that my participation, and the prayer I would offer, will be dwarfed by those seeking to make their agenda the focal point of the inauguration.”
As someone who deeply respects Louie Giglio and enjoys his preaching, I was naturally very curious and listened to the controversial sermon.
I could not find any hateful comments, and as for the sermon being anti-gay, I could find no attacks on gay people.
I have noticed that any speech that does not view homosexuality in a positive light is immediately labeled as hate speech by the gay community.
Chick-fil-A encountered this exact situation this past summer. I fail to understand why an alternate viewpoint on homosexuality is equivalent to hate speech.
Anyone who opposes gay marriage tends to be vilified instead of treated with respect.
Despite all of the ways the gay community promotes gay marriage as a good thing, as a Christian I cannot come to the same conclusion for one major reason.
Paul reveals in Ephesians that God intended marriage to be a beautiful picture of the relationship between Christ and the church.
The husband takes the role of Christ and so loves and leads his wife, even to the point of laying his life down for her own.
The wife, likewise, takes the role of the church and submits to her husband. This submission does not belittle her, but just as Christ exalts us when we submit to him, so the husband cherishes his wife and seeks to lead her in a way that brings her joy.
Marriage is a wondrous gift, a tangible way to experience a God who exists outside of this world.
Gay marriage directly opposes this image established by God.
Christ is not the church and the church is not Christ; both have distinct and separate roles.
A marriage of two men or two women cannot reflect this relationship between Christ and the church.
Gay marriage mars the divine beauty that God has given marriage.
There are other reasons why homosexuality and gay marriage are perversions, but I hope that you can at least understand why I cannot support gay marriage.
I praise Louie Giglio for being a pastor who does not sacrifice truth for popularity.
His words, and no doubt my own, will be called hate speech. But the love of Christ demands that I speak truth.
