We’re finally here. You can’t say that it’s all over just yet, but you can say that you’ve made it this far. You’ve gotten to the point in the semester where you can see the finish line.

But, you didn’t get here alone. It’s important to remember that there are instrumental people in our lives who do small things that have a huge impact. These are the people who we can not only call on during desperate times, but the people who are simply looking out for the best of us when we don’t even know it. They uplift you, support you, tell you when you’re wrong and most importantly, make you feel good.

This is what I like to call a support system. You don’t necessarily handpick your support system, but they just gradually take on the role. Just one or two friends may not make up your entire support system. Sometimes, it’s hard to determine who exactly embodies what it means to be a supportive friend or family member. Here are some ways you can point them out, and from this, you can make sure that you’re playing the supportive role someone else needs in their life.

  1. Who is checking on you?

Sometimes, we find ourselves having to reach out to people in our lives when things are going wrong with us. There are some people who will be the first to check on us and make sure that we’re okay before we can even develop a problem. If you need to talk or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to someone, but pay attention to those who are reaching out to you.

  1. Who is being honest with you?

We all have people in our lives who we know we can go to for what we want to hear. The most important people will tell us what we need to hear so that we can use the constructive criticism or honesty for self-improvement. Be careful with only surrounding yourself with people who are not being completely honest with you, because it’ll result in you missing out on opportunities for growth.

  1. Who is returning but not counting the favors?

There are plenty of people who are going to be more than willing to do something for you, but only because you did something for them before or they expect you to do something for them in the future. People who support you won’t be keeping track of favors, handouts, or time spent. Instead, their care and concern for you will be shown through their willingness to help whenever.

Take note of the people in your life and whether or not they have a positive or negative impact on it. Once we realize who is there for us, it’s a lot easier for us to remove negative energy and people so that we can focus and flourish.

Keep this mind as you are studying for long nights and trying to make it through. You should also remember this as you are entering the summer and a new stage in your life. You don’t have to do it all on your own. Find your support system, and be a part of someone else’s. You’ll make it.
