Junior Faiz Aly spent his summer writing, reviewing and editing. He started writing in June. In September, he had a book published.

Aly is a marketing and business management double major from Peachtree City, Georgia. He’s co-founder and vice-president of the Mercer Enactus chapter, a member of SGA and a professional business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi.

His book, “Enhance Your Digital Marketing,” is about increasing brand awareness and boosting revenue using social media. Aly said he initially wrote the book for smaller brands and companies, but he realized it’s not just for them, but for college students as well.

Enhance Your Digital Marketing, written by Mercer student Faiz Aly, can be accessed online through iBooks.

“It’s much more than just posting a selfie and posting pictures of food or pictures of your family,” he said. “It is connecting with your brand. It’s connecting with your audience. It’s about engaging them and having them interested in your product or your service.”

Aly covers three specific platforms in his book: Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.

“What’s nice about social media is that you don’t even have to pay for it,” he said. “In my book, I get into greater detail about how you should post, what kind of things you should post . . . even what time you should post.”

Aly wants to encourage students to treat themselves as a brand because after college, when we go to apply for our dream jobs, employers will look at our social media pages.

“Social media can be your portfolio,” he said.

Aly said because he chose to publish his book digitally, it’s continually a work in progress.

“So whenever Instagram or Snapchat or Facebook comes out with a new feature, I will update the book with the latest information and anyone that already has the book can update it.”

Aly said the process of writing the book was extremely difficult, but he started by writing down his thoughts and going back to edit them.

“I reviewed it like 50 times, and every time I had stuff to add to it, and I had to take some stuff out,” Aly said.

Professors Samantha Lankford and Jane Winston both knew about Aly’s book before he released it.

“They’re more than professors, they’re also like my personal mentors, and I look up to them,” he said.

Aly was enrolled in Winston’s business communication course last spring.

“Faiz is bigger than life,” Winston said. “He thinks big, dreams big, plans big and makes big things happen.”

Aly said if he could give one piece of advice to Mercer students, it would be to follow your dreams.

“Don’t take no for an answer,” he said. “Look at where you want to be in the future and work every single day super hard to make sure you get there.”

“Enhance Your Digital Marketing” is available for free on Apple iBooks and it is slated to be released on Amazon Kindle, Google Books, and Barnes and Noble later this year.
