Give them candy and they will come.

Ghosts and goblins and princesses are coming to Greek Row October 29th for Mercer's annual Harvest Fest.

The event will be lead by Rachel Rosenmeyer, Natalie Wharton, and Jane Gibson, all sophomore sisters in Mercer’s sororities. Though the event will take place along Greek Row, Rosenmeyer stressed that all students are encouraged to participate.

She said that the Student Athletic Association is bringing athletes to help with the activities, which include a haunted house, trick or treating, and crafts.

Though the event has usually taken place on Homecoming weekend, the coordinators said they wanted the event to stand alone in order for it to be both closer to Halloween and to draw more attention to it—separating it from the chaotic bustle of homecoming weekend.

“It allows for the parents not to worry about the children and to go enjoy Halloween without having to provide for other children at the same time,” noted Rosenmeyer.

Rosenmeyer emphasized that the event is as much for the children at it is for their parents to have a relaxing night off.

“It is a safe and fun Halloween activity that is more than just trick-or-treating,” Rosenmeyer said.

Though most of the kids who come to the event are children of Mercer faculty and staff, Rosenmeyer says she hopes that more children who aren’t affiliated with the school will participate in years to come.

Providing opportunities for Macon children to participate in safe activities while getting to know the Mercer community has been a longtime commitment of Mercer’s administration.

The Harvest Fest will allow Macon children to have a night to celebrate Halloween, relieving any stress about the safety of trick or treating in their neighborhoods.
