I feel pressured to have sex, but I don’t feel ready. How do I bring this up with my significant other?
Hello! First, remember that it is okay to abstain from sex, despite social norms. Sex or any level of personal intimacy is a big step in a dating relationship, and if you do not feel like you are ready, communicate with your partner. Clear communication is vital in relationships, and it is essential that you are strong in your convictions. Be confident and assertive when you tell your partner you are not ready for sex. However, this does not mean you should engage in an angry argument with your partner. Calm but confident language is best. Be open and honest, and a good partner will be open to what you have to say. Also, when saying no, it may help to explain your reasons for wanting to take things slow, though you are certainly not obligated to do so. I wish you the best of luck!
What are some tips on how to safely deal with alcohol?
Dear student, As you may well know, Mercer University maintains a dry campus, where alcohol is neither allowed nor encouraged. Additionally, if you are under the age of 21, it is illegal for you to purchase or consume alcohol. I urge you to follow campus rules and the law. However, as a fellow college student, I know that the rules are sometimes broken, and many of us will be exposed to alcohol. When engaged in a situation involving alcohol, it is essential to make wise decisions. First and foremost, do not feel pressured to drink. Choosing to abstain does not make you inferior to your peers. Secondly, if you are in a situation where you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, do not be afraid to seek help. Mercer Police is a great resource for rides home and more. Make sure you have their number (478-301-4357) saved in your phone. Should you choose to drink, make sure to never leave your drink unattended, and practice drinking in moderation. It is also encouraged to have a buddy system. Take a friend along for safety and designated driving purposes. Inform others of your plans, and be cautious. Most importantly, if you or a friend have been drinking, do not attempt to drive. Please call MerPo or another sober friend for everyone’s safety. Ultimately, it is important to make wise decisions and consider the consequences when dealing with alcohol. I hope these tips have been helpful. Have a great, safe year!
