Roasted Café and Lounge and the club The Crazy Bull will be hosting the first annual Turnip Festival on Nov. 8. According to the music blog The Blue Indian, Mid-East Peace Productions (Macon’s newest promotions and talent-buying group) has announced the complete lineup for the music festival. The festival will feature two stages and 16 bands.
The festival will feature a variety of performances and genres that include everything from indie rock to livetronica, states theblueindian.com. There will be a headlining debut from the band Thomas Wynn & The Believers.
“As someone who's been involved in music and art her entire life, I'm definitely excited for the Turnip Festival. Local festivals like this one (ones that get together up-and-coming bands and artists like some of those that are participating here) are extremely important in the world of the arts, so I fully support it. It's also great that this festival brings together music from a variety of genres, though I'm most excited about the indie rock groups,” shares Bryce Wilborn, a student at Mercer University who plans to attend the festival.
The event is starting at 5:30 p.m. and will also include vendors and artists. “Giving notice to the visual artists appearing here is also an important feature, since they often are overlooked by musicians. Overall, I think the Turnip Festival could be a fantastic event for the city of Macon to look forward to each year; it will add a brand new aspect to our community that everyone will love,” says Wilborn.
The headlining band for the festival is Thomas Wynn & The Believers who, according to their website, are “a combination of blistering rock and southern soul.” Members of the band include Thomas Wynn for lead vocals and guitar, Olivia Wynn for vocals and tambo, Chris Bell on harmonica, Dave Wagner on bass, and Ryan Miranda on drums.
Sounduo is another one of the bands that will be performing at the festival. They are described on their Facebook page’s biography to be “a future-dub, audio/visual live performance project.” It continues, stating, “Their sound has been described as what a studio jam session may sound like between Flying Lotus and Lee Scratch Perry', or the musical love child of the Tribal Seeds, Amp Live and Daft Punk.”
The band JuBee and the Morning After has been described by the Macon Telegraph to be "a venture for the charismatic frizzy fro’d half of City Council, who brings a passionately nerdy group of backing rockers to flesh out a pop sound that will surprise you." Members of the band include Dwayne "JuBee" Webb for vocals, Danny Effin Davis for harmony vocals and, Alex Scarborough on drums, and Josh Graff on guitar.
Other acts performing at the music festival include the bands BABY BABY, Houston, Andy BRUH, Boots & Cats, Crescent Moon Dogs, B3, African Americana, The Saturday Giants, Hussy Hussy and Grateful Dead Cover Band.
A variety of different people will venture downtown for Turnip Festival for the similar purpose of enjoying an array of live music and to “Turnip” the beat next Friday night.
